The 2nd Asian Muslim Youth Leadership Summit and 9th AGM of Asian Federation of Muslim Youth (AFMY) was held from 21st to 23rd of December 2018 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Over 80 delegates representing youth organizations from different Asian countries participated in the event.

The event was presided by the president of AFMY H. Iman Budiman, S. Th. I. along with the ExCo members. The first day of the event was graced by His Excellency Y.A.B Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, The Chief Minister of Terengganu. He delivered a speech on the role of youth in development which was followed by a round table discussion. On Saturday the 22nd of December 2018 Dr. Hajjah Halimah Ali of PAS Central Committee officially declared open the summit with her keynote address.

The event consisted of several roundtable discussions and presentations by professionals and activists from around Asia on a wide spectrum of themes such as “The role of youth in Islamic development & addressing regional issues in Asia”, “New perspectives of Dawah and Education in Asia” and “Unity in Economy: Brotherhood and Prosperity”.

Mr Muhtar Suhaili (PAS Central Committee), H. Iman Budiman, S. Th. I. (AFMY Former President), Watteau Datu Ibrahim (Ittihad Shabab Al Islamie Bilfilibin), Mr. Fahmy, Mr. Zumri Mohammed (Sri Lanka Islamic Students’ Movement), Tun Muhamad Tahir Jalaludin (Young Muslim Association of Thailand – YMAT), Dr. Engkos Kosasih, Lc. M.Ag (Lecturer of State Islamic University SGD Bandung – Indonesia), Mr Faiz Ali (Malaysia) and Mr Zulkifli Mamat (Founder International Muslim Business Network) facilitated the discussions as panelists.

On Sunday the 23rd, the AGM of AFMY was held, during which the new Executive Committee for the term 2018/21 was elected by the representative members present in the audience. The newly elected committee is as follows;

  1. The President – Dr. Abdul Muntaqim Abu Bakar of Malaysia, a medical doctor by profession.
  2. Secretary General – Mr. Zumri Mohammed (MBA) of Sri Lanka, a management lecturer and trainer.
  3. Deputy President – Mr. H. Iman Budiman, S. Th. I. of Indonesia, a socio political and Dawah activist
  4. Vice President – Mr. Ahmad Alqadasi of Yemen, a doctoral student
  5. Assistant Secretary General – Mr. Athif Sani, a management professional
  6. Treasurer – Sheikh. Thowfeek of Singapore, an Aalim and Islamic activist

The Executive Committee also comprises of representatives from youth, women, professionals and regional representatives.

A resolution which included key concerns of the Asian Muslim community was proclaimed and accepted by the participants and their respective organizations. The event came to an end on the noon of Sunday with the closing remarks of Y.B Usthaz Muhammad Khalil Bin Abdul Hadi (PAS Youth Chief).
